This incredible video of the abandoned Selma Plantation Mansion in Virginia is a moving glimpse into a hauntingly beautiful and historic structure. The plantation dates back to the original European settlement of Virginia, and has a fascinating and tragic past. This past March, though, it was purchased and is currently being restored to its former splendor. This historic mansion stands at the base of Catocin Mountain in Loudoun County near Leesburg.

It was built in 1815 by Armistead Thomson Mason, who was later killed after a political argument with his cousin, Colonel John Mason McCarty.

A string of deaths and tragedies plagued the Selma Plantation until the 21st century, when it was briefly converted to an event space before being abandoned again in the early 2000s.

For years, ashes sat on the dramatic hearths of the mansion. The mansion’s halls were stunningly well-preserved.
