If you really want a beach that will take you away from it all, Rutherford Beach is a great choice. This beach is about 3.5 hours away from New Orleans and will give you a beautiful experience of the gulf without all the hustle and bustle of other gulf coast beaches.
Rutherford beach can be found just south of Lake Charles, along Hwy 82 in Cameron, LA.
Google Maps This beach is one of a number of beaches that used to make up the popular “Cajun Riviera”. Hurricane Rita and other storms did a number on this coast, however, so it has never been as populated since then.
The beach here has a nice white strip of sand and is surrounded by some really beautiful wildlife management areas.
