New Jersey has over 14,000,000 residents. With that many people, we’re bound to get a little weird every once in a while. It’s not just people though, New Jersey has its share of strange animal stories as well. Here’s some of the strangest stuff that has ever happened in our state.
- New Jersey police found a stolen trailer FULL of pasta.

- A Rahway burglar returned to apologize.

- Mitt Romney BEAT Barack Obama…in a cockroach derby.
Flickr/Allison Harger Every four years, the New Jersey Pest Management Association holds a presidential race of its own. Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches represent the candidates and race to victory on a three foot long track.
- 30.000 bees made their own home in a Cape May attic.
Flickr/Ken Slade There were around 30,000 bees living in an attic with more than 25 pounds of honey and honeycomb under the floorboards. When the homeowners found out they said it was incredibly beautiful but that the bees had to go.
- An alligator was found in the Passaic River.
Flickr/Joe Parks Though the species is not native to New Jersey, a four foot long gator was found swimming in our state. It is believed to be a pet that was released.
- A blood-thirsty shark inspired the movie “Jaws”.
Flickr/Bryan Scott In 1916 four were killed and one injured by what may have been a single shark. Attacks occurred as far inland as Matawan, 11 miles from the ocean! This sparked a massive shark-hunt which eventually put an end to the attacks.
- A Westfield home has an eerie stalker.
Image/Google Maps A family bought and renovated their dream home in Westfield. Shortly after, they began receiving threatening letters from a stranger stalking the house. They have decided not to move in and are currently suing the former owners.
