While most people visit Maryland’s islands for the water views, fishing, and to work on their tans, St. Clement’s Island offers something a little different. This little known spot off the coast of Southern Maryland deserves more recognition. After all, it’s the birthplace of our state.
You wouldn’t know it, but this little island is where English settlers first landed in Maryland in 1634.

The park also includes trails and spots for picnics. The most grand feature, however, is the giant cross commemorating the very first Marylanders.
