We’re lucky enough to live in a state that has lots of places where you can feel like you stepped into a fairy tale. In fact, you can find lots of places like that on this list. One of those places is a city park tucked in the very center of Fayetteville. At Wilson Park you’ll find a castle and a number of other whimsical details that will make your visit feel like you’re living in a story book.

You can find Wilson Park at 675 North Park Avenue in Fayetteville.

Wilson Park was Fayetteville’s first city park, dating back to 1906. Back then there was no castle, but there has always been a spring flowing through the park.

Before the concrete swimming pool was built, what is now a softball field was Trent’s Pond, a favorite swimming hole fed by the spring. The spring now feeds Scull Creek.

Until 1979, there was an unsightly spring house located over where the spring surfaces. That spring house was replaced by a lovely castle, which is the first thing among many details that make visiting Wilson Park like stepping into a fairy tale.

Artists and sculptors had a hand in building the castle and all the little details that surround it, which is not surprising considering the beauty of the park centerpiece.

Pieces like this dogwood bench make the experience extra-whimsical.

There’s a bridge there, and some bright fish in the water waiting to greet you.
