There’s still lots of summer left and one of the best ways to enjoy a hot, summer day is at one of Oklahoma’s beautiful creeks. There are lots to choose from, but if you’re like me and Iike swimming in crystal clear water, head to northeastern Oklahoma to find one of the most pristine creeks in the state – Spring Creek. It boasts one of the best water qualities around and the 70-degree temperature is just perfect this time of year. Check it out below:
Spring Creek begins in Delaware County near the town of Kansas, Oklahoma and flows 34 miles southwest through Cherokee, Delaware and Mayes Counties until it flows into the Ft. Gibson Reservoir.

The creek flows through private and public land and can be accessed at several points along the way. There are a few commercial spots that offer easy access to the creek. You can swim, camp or picnic right along the creek for a small fee.

One spot to check out is the Smokey Valley Campground at 2223 SE 61.6 Drive in Locust Grove. They are open daily from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Spring Creek water temperature ranges from around 50 to 75 degrees, so it’s just perfect during the summer months.

Two more great places to enter Spring Creek are Littlefield’s and Cave Springs - each privately owned family properties. They can be accessed off Old Peggs Cemetery Rd (N 440). They also offer day passes and overnight camping for a small fee.
